Conflicts in Africa: is it a panacea for development?

Omar al-Bashir, president of North Sudan, Muammar Qaddhafi, Libyan leader and Salva Kiir, the newly inaugurated president of South Sudan

The war in Libya and the break-up of Sudan has caused the most brutal social, political and economic implications of both developments for African Unity and especially their potential impact on the future of Afro-Arab relations in Africa. It is clear, without any reasonable doubts that the African Union has not handled these happenings with the prudent leadership and foresight that they deserve. This is bound to bear untold and undesirable consequences and may cause irreparable damage to African Unity.
